Last wee, the counselor asked Timothy to name something that never makes him feel stressed or nervous, something that is relaxing. He named "garage time."
We are very blessed to have a large 2-car garage that the kids can play in when it's raining or too cold to play outside. When they start getting too rowdy in the house, it's time for garage time.
Our house was a foreclosure and the previous owners left the desk (below). Timothy really wanted some space all to his own so we spray painted green and brown (his favorite color). He often does art projects or he'll play with army men at his desk. He loves that he has a place to store his treasure. (Looks like he was playing moon sand on this day)
We also bought little $7 under-the-bed storage containers that work great for a sandbox and gravel pit. Samuel loves to push his trains, tractors, and dump trucks around. Timothy builds with the sand. We can just throw the lid on and push it to the side when they're done.
Hannah loves her exersaucer! We got this for $35 on Walmart.com and it's turned out to be money well spent. She bounces and smiles and plays with the toys. She really wouldn't be safe on the ground in the garage, but she can still join in on the fun on her exersaucer that stays out there.
We also rotate swings in the garage. We saw
this swing on a blog and we knew we had to make it. It was so inexpensive--some rope, some wood, and and an old rug. We also have a regular swing, a trapeze bar, and an infant swing for Hannah that we rotate out. That keeps it interesting.
The boys also ride tricycles and scooters all around. Samuel will peddle around on his tricycle for a half hour or more most days. Timothy prefers the new radio flyer scooter he can sit on and push around.
We like that our children have somewhere to go and just play. They may not realize it, but they're very blessed.
Now, the upstairs of the garage is finished out and is sort of a toy catch-all at the moment. One day it's going to be something we're proud of, but right now it's lots of toys on the floor!
